Baltimore Rock & Ride was born out of heartache. Watching someone you love fight cancer leaves a permanent scar on your heart, watching them lose leaves a canyon. We wanted to raise money for cancer patients in need while having fun, not your average fundraiser. And so was born the inaugural event, The Big Wheel Race for Cancer. A family friendly event with food, raffles and of course a "run what you brung" big wheel race for all ages. As R&R continued to grow in support other events were introduced: R&R Beer Pong Tournament, Big Wheel Grand prix and cornhole tournament, RC Socks Cancer, Put a Cork in Cancer, Orioles Opening Day package. We donated exclusively to one treatment center through the years to programs that provided patients with support.
2023 has brought a new meaning to Baltimore Rock & Ride. This time we are celebrating a WIN. Paying it forward for the tremendous gift my family received to pay over $40k of out of pocket costs. We are working towards giving someone else this incredible gift to fight their fight unbridled. We are currently transitioning from a LLC to a foundation. As our own foundation we will be able to help many more individuals, from various treatment centers in meaningful unique ways. Every battle is different. My mother often said," what do people do when they have no one to take them to daily treatments?" Many times we heard the treatment center turn down a request for transportation, apologizing profusely there was just no availability for the day. She was painfully aware of how lucky she was that we had so much flexibility but many did not. We knew we needed to revive Baltimore Rock and Ride.
Online store coming . We have a launch of Baltimore Rock and Ride clothing coming in time for the big wheel race!

Unlike large fundraisers, we have more say over how our donation will be used. The focus of these efforts may shift over time but always know the money is going to a local cancer fighter to directly alleviate the impact cancer has had in their life. This can include grants to pay off enormous medical debt, provide transportation to and from treatments and medical appointments. My sister and I were extremely lucky to have an amazing support system at our places of employment, so we were able to share the responsibility. Radiation and some types of chemotherapy requires daily trips to the hospital for months. For reference before insurance a consultation for radiation was billed at $43,000, even if insurance covers 80%, that is substantial.
Hopefully we can pay forward the incredible feeling of someone's generosity eliminating even a slice of the overwhelming stress that comes with this battle.
